Summary

General Summary: Under the supervision of the Engineering Supervisor and/or Manager, performs on demand and scheduled preventive maintenance of the facility equipment to primarily include plumbing and associated systems in accordance with departmental, hospital and regulatory agency codes. Specific duties include maintaining facilities and equipment in a hospital or clinic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 Performs inspections, maintenance and repairs to facilities to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
 Performs repairs to failed equipment according to established standards and within acceptable timeframes.
 Provides notification of equipment shutdowns to appropriate leadership, departmental personnel, and Service Response Center Operators.
 Maintains documentation to accurately record equipment problems and failures specifically including but not limited to work order completeness.
 Identifies different types of plumbing components, tools and materials and their application and usage.
 Exhibits work quality that consistently meets customer’s needs and code requirements to ensure a safe environment.
 Provides complete documentation as required by management and for authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) specifically including but not limited to work order documentation.
 Ensures good rapport and cooperative working relationship with internal and external customers. Complete activities in a manner that maximizes effectiveness of the task and minimizes the impact to the customer.
 Demonstrates positive attitude and respect for others.
 Demonstrates effective, thorough verbal and written communication with customers and co-workers.
 Responds promptly and appropriately to all forms of Hospital communications including but not limited to pagers, radios, telephone, e-mail messages, verbal and written communications.
 Plans, organizes, and coordinates small projects.
 Works from blueprints and estimates projects.
 Manages individual inventory following departmental inventory management and control parameters.
 Maintains plumbing-related equipment and procedure documentation manuals.
 Performs other duties as assigned.

Licenses and/or Certifications:
 A plumbing Apprentice certification from the State of Virginia is required.
 A plumbing Journeyman certification from the State of Virginia is preferred.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
 High school diploma or equivalent, required.
 Three (3) years of experience as a plumbing service-related technician, required.
 Previous Healthcare experience preferred.
 High-rise plumbing systems experience preferred.
 Medical gas systems experience preferred.
 Knowledge of usage of maintenance equipment and diagnostics to facilitate trouble-shooting and repair processes
 Ability to use maintenance equipment, including hand-held power tools
 Ability to use computers for building automation and computerized maintenance management systems
 Ability to resource with others effectively
 Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
 Demonstrate management skills such as planning, coordination, estimating, and scheduling skills
 Responsibilities will include assignments in spaces requiring safe work practices, compliance with OSHA requirements, effective communication, and customer service skills.
 Must meet the insurability policy requirements to drive a CHKD vehicle.
 Must be able to pass the CHKD driving test within 30 days of employment.
