Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY

    • The Music Therapist is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating music therapy services.  Utilizes music therapy to restore, maintain, or improve cognitive, physical, emotional, spiritual and social function of patients and their families. Reports to department leadership.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assesses patient needs and develops treatment plan including measurable goals and objectives.

    • Implements music therapy interventions and techniques to maintain or improve physical, emotional, and social health of patients.

    • Evaluates patient’s progress and effectiveness toward established goals.

    • Provides music therapy services for patients and families at the end of life and at the annual hospital memorial service.

    • Offers procedural support and relaxation through the use of music.

    • Documents interventions in the patient’s electronic medical record.

    • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in planning music activities in accordance with patients’ needs.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

    • Board Certified (MT-BC).

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy or equivalent as required for eligibility for certification by the American Music Therapy Association.

    • Minimum 1-2 years of experience working as a MT-BC or completion of 1040 hour music therapy internship in healthcare environment preferred.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Normal patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Frequent exposure to communicable disease and moderately adverse working condition due to performance of certain patient care activities.
