Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Pharmacy Ambulatory Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing the operational and regulatory activities of Ambulatory Pharmacy Services to ensure high quality, accurate, efficient and complete pharmacy services.  Reports to the Pharmacy Support Manager.  
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provides leadership, oversight, and direction to pharmacy operations in accordance with organizational policies and procedures. 
    • Maintains overall responsibility for the daily planning, work scheduling and coordination, and operational performance of the ambulatory-oriented Pharmacy department activities.  
    • Directly oversees ambulatory pharmacy operations for Urgent Care Centers, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Infusion centers, hospital-based clinics, and Medical Tower locations.
    • Serves as the Supervising Practitioner for oversight of the associated VA Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance Registrations for non-Pharmacy medication use locations.  
    • Serves as the liaison between CHKD and all retail/specialty pharmacy services.  
    • Serves as a member of hospital task forces and committees as assigned. 
    • Seeks guidance from the director and/or upper management given unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial /operational policies and standards of practice.
    • Participates in departmental quality and performance improvement projects and ambulatory staff workflows.
    • Participates in pharmacy on-call programs as assigned.
    • Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other activities as assigned.
       
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Must possess a Virginia Pharmacy License or be eligible for licensure within three months of hire. 
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy required.
    • Minimum of four years of pharmacy practice experience in a hospital or ambulatory pharmacy setting required, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training may be substituted as explained below:
      o    ASHP- accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and 2 years of pharmacy practice experience in a pharmacy setting as described above
                    • Master’s Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration may be substituted for one year of practice experience
      o    ASHP- accredited PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency in Health System Pharmacy Administration
    • Knowledge of pharmaceutical inventory management/procurement processes, 340b, retail and specialty pharmacy is highly preferred. 
    • Demonstrates knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel and QuickBooks.
    • Demonstrates high quality critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to resolve problems. 
    • Must be able to plan, supervise and establish a professional working environment within areas of responsibility. 
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills necessary to lead direct reports.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in order to explain hospital and department policies and procedures and communicate effectively with other professionals. 
    • Must be in good standing and maintain continuing education requirements with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
       
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Pharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Minimum adverse working conditions related to the proximity and services of the clinical healthcare services.
