Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Clinical Lab Scientist Supervisor is responsible for supervising, coordinating and directing the work flow and functions of designated laboratory personnel to facilitate safe and efficient work flow in the performance of routine and special laboratory procedures.  Reports to designated manager. 
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Assists in the selection, training, orientation, competency validation and performance evaluation of designated personnel.
    • Assists with continuous quality improvement, budget planning, monitoring and reporting.
    • Supervises plans, develops, and organizes services and activities to support laboratory services.
    • Works in close cooperation with the manager and under the clinical guidance of the pathologist(s).
    • Performs a wide variety of laboratory activities and services to support accurate and precise laboratory practice. 
    • Demonstrates a high level of excellence in laboratory practice characterized by quality patient testing, leadership and participation in formal and informal patient and staff education.
    • Assists with insuring compliance with all regulations.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist in all disciplines by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or National Certification Agency (NCA) required.
    • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire. 
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive work experience in a laboratory setting.
    • Understanding of laboratory operations to include, but not limited to, knowledge of standard operating procedures, budgeting, and staffing recommended. 
    • Demonstrates technical expertise unique to the clinical operations within the laboratory.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary to direct subordinates and delegate tasks. 
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and other Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) software preferred.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Clinical laboratory work environment with frequent exposure to physical discomforts due to unpleasant odors from chemicals and specimens.  Frequent exposure to infectious agents when handling specimens or hazardous materials.  Potential for personal harm or injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
