Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Administrative Resident position provides a master's student/graduate with comprehensive knowledge, training and independent project experience in the internal operations of healthcare administration. The Administrative Resident will work within a 12-month project based engagement, ensuring that the Resident works closely with senior leadership on key projects that address operational and strategic initiatives and support the overall mission of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. The Resident is invited to attend leadership meetings and is encouraged to enhance their experience by networking, shadowing and seeking out other activities across the organization. Exposure to a variety of key clinical departments, operating units and support areas will be offered. The Resident will work closely with the CHKD Planning Department and report directly to the Director, Strategic Planning & Business Development who will provide project oversight and mentorship to foster the development of verbal, interpersonal and analytical skills desired in today’s health care leaders.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translates theory into practice, participates in the decision-making process with operational, financial, and strategic health care leaders.
  • Develops professional values and skills and networks across the organization to build relationships. 
  • Responsible for a variety of projects which may include budget preparation, process improvement initiatives, revenue cycle optimization, operational dashboards and analyses, service line strategic plans, and business plan development.
  • Develops comprehensive impactful business plans including information gathering, analysis, financial impact, and final recommendation with formal presentation. 
  • Performs other duties and specialized projects as assigned. 

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • None required. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Enrollment in or recent graduation from a Master's in Healthcare Administrative or equivalent program.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability and plans to pursue a career in hospital or health care administration.
  • Analytical skills necessary to assess facts and develop recommendations.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required to work with a variety of medical and management personnel.
  • Submission of a letter of interest, two letters of recommendation and a one-page written statement of the residency objectives is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
