Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY


The Mental Health Researcher is the core research scientist in the mental health research program. The individual will work closely with the mental health research center director to identify and pursue research priorities.  By implementing research initiatives, developing grant proposals and supporting programmatic quality initiatives, this individual will support the key elements of the mental health research program.  This role reports to the Vice President of Mental Health.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with key stakeholders and the mental health research leadership team to identify research priorities. 
  • Develops investigator-initiated research projects, including submitting grant proposals, implementing the project, and disseminating findings.
  • Maintains and analyzes mental health clinical program data and Quality Improvement (QI) projects.
  • Assesses opportunities for eliminating disparities in mental health programs and research.
  • Leads the mental health family advisory council. 
  • Oversees research coordinator and research assistants.
  • Teaches team members the principles of QI.

 Outcomes: 

  •  Tracks and measures quality and outcome data in the Mental Health Clinical Program. 
  • Develops and submits successfully funded grant proposals.
  • Publications and presentations related to research projects.
  • Sustains effective partnerships with outside collaborators. 

Grant Development: 

  • Identifies federal, state, private foundation, and local community grant opportunities for child and adolescent mental health.
  • Participates in the development of grant proposals and manages grant related projects for the Mental Health Service Line.
  • Works closely with the CHKD Development Office and Director of Research to assist in identifying other programmatic funding opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS


None required. 


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate degree in a related field providing professional knowledge of health care delivery, especially child mental health.
  • Requires three to five years of experience working in a public health or clinical setting as a researcher or academic clinician.
  • In-depth knowledge of data aggregation, database management, and research methods. 
  • Strong analytical skills and competencies to understand statistical significance across large datasets. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point and able to learn statistical software (SPSS).
  • Ability to collect information and cohesively integrate into an organized format for executive level and community presentations. 
  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to manage projects and events from conception through completion. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to articulate information in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Ability to set priorities, stay organized, and meet deadlines.  

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
