Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Operations Center Manager is responsible for coordinating effective and efficient patient flow activities and inpatient bed placement requests from various department and units. Provides overall responsibility for designated service operations with 24-hour accountability.  Reports to department leadership.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Serves as the super-user on the Teletracking software for pre-admission applications, patient tracking, reporting, staff education and system upgrades. 
    • Utilizes Teletracking software to communicate with units/ departments across the health system to ensure optimum patient movement. 
    • Ensures safe and appropriate patient placement within the hospital, facilitates bed meetings; works closely with emergency management coordinator, staffing coordinator and ancillary services to ensure optimal patient care during urgent situations, staffing beds, and also obtains and analyzes data related to patient flow. 
    • Provides leadership and oversight to the vascular access, resource pool and operations center staff to facilitate safe and efficient workflow and clinical practices.
    • Delegates, supervises personnel, operationalizes, solves problems, makes decisions and develops systems and processes for successful integration and implementation. 
    • Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other assigned activities.
    • Seeks guidance from the Director and/or upper management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice.
    • Establishes, communicates and develops means to implement standards of expectation, performance and behavior for responsible departments. 
    • Provides developmentally appropriate psychosocial and clinical care respective to the assigned patient population. 
    • Performs other duties as assigned. 
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
    • Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility in order to assist in the planning and implementation of patient flow and bed placement activities. 
    • Demonstrates excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to plan, supervise, develop, coordinate and maintain a professional work environment. 
    • Previous nursing administrative supervisor, operation coordinator, or education coordinator experience a plus. 
    • Previous experience with patient tracking software preferred. 
    • Demonstrates knowledge of integrated software applications and mobile technology preferred. 
    • Critical thinking abilities a must. 
    • Demonstrates ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational functions. 
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to direct subordinates and delegate tasks.
    • Pediatric experience preferred. 
    • Technical and professional knowledge unique to the business and/or clinical operations of the designated services (Nursing, Financial, Human Resource, Information Systems, Risk, Governance, Regulations, Planning and Marketing). 
    • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
