Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The RN – Nurse Manager of Mental Health (Ambulatory) is responsible for managing designated ambulatory nursing personnel, coordinating and directing the workflow and functions of the department assigned to facilitate safe and efficient workflow and clinical practices. Has overall responsibility for designated clinic operations with 24-hour accountability. Reports to the Director, Mental Health.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Supervises assigned staff including development of schedules and ensuring that quality patient care is delivered.
    • Resolves patient needs by using multidisciplinary team strategies.
    • Participates in hiring process to include interviewing and selecting applicants, and orienting new staff, conducting performance evaluations and recommending corrective action when necessary.
    • Ensures that nursing policies and procedures are developed and implemented within the ambulatory clinics.
    • Communicates and interprets policies and procedures with nursing team.
    • Collaborates with physicians assuring that medical follow up is complete.
    • Contributes ideas and suggestions to improve methods and productivity within the assigned clinic(s) while maintaining high quality patient care.
    • Mentors and coaches nursing staff to ensure continued professional development.
    • Provides emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
    • Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability, preventive maintenance and other measures.
    • Ensures nursing supplies are maintained by reviewing usage reports, identifying trends and anticipating needs; submits supply orders as necessary.
    • Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.
    • Protects patients by carrying out infection-control policies and protocols, enforcing medication administration and storage procedures and controlled substance regulations.
    • Participates in budget development process as directed.
    • Leads and identifies Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives for ambulatory care. 
    • Supports workflow and practice management functions with our practice management team.
    • Seeks guidance from the Director and/or leadership for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice.
    • Performs other duties as directed.
       
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
    • Supervisory experience required. Healthcare/management experience preferred.
    • Pediatric experience preferred.
    • More than one year of psychiatric experience required.
    • Possesses excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to plan, establish and maintain a professional work environment.
    • Ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational functions.
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to direct subordinates and delegate tasks.
    • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
    • Technical and professional knowledge unique to the business and/or clinical operations of the designated services (Nursing, Financial, Human Resource, Information Systems, Risk, Governance, Regulations, Planning and Marketing).
    • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
