Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY
The RN - Clinical Practice Manager (Mental Health) is responsible for education and training including developing processes to assure evidence based clinical outcomes and patient safety initiatives. Facilitates a safe environment and just culture of patient safety through education, research opportunities and the development and management of activities that reduce the risk of injury to patients, visitors, and stakeholders. Carries out and is accountable for daily operations for nursing education and other negotiated/assigned activities in combination with educational coordinators, peer managers and service line director. Seeks guidance from peer managers and the director for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial / operational policies and standards of practice.  Reports to Mental health service line director /department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops strategies for frontline patient safety engagement and accountability via nursing education, orientation and staff development. 
  • Leads efforts associated with new knowledge and innovation including interdisciplinary quality initiatives (unit specific quality improvement projects, Patient Satisfaction, and Culture of Safety surveys), evidence-based practice projects and clinical research. 
  • Facilitates a safe environment and just culture of patient safety through the development and management of activities that reduce the risk of injury to patients, visitors, and stakeholders via teaching/ training and nursing education.
  • Develops educational strategies for frontline patient safety engagement and accountability. 
  • Delegates, supervises personnel, solves problems, makes decisions and develops systems and processes for successful integration and implementation of evidenced based practice nursing education.  
  • Oversees education and training to mental health service line staff on established policies and procedures.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Children’s Pavilion training department.
  • Functions in a professional collaborative role with multiple departments, management teams and personnel.
  • Manages and oversees RN Education Specialists- Mental Health, ensuring quality revenue cycle and standardized workflows.
  • Works with Director of Mental Health and Psych Services, leadership teams, and the Learning & Development Team to maximize accurate documentation, compliance, and revenue management.
  • Identifies and reports workflow and revenue cycle process improvement activities through analysis and compliance reporting.
  • Compiles and analyzes data, develops statistical databases, reports, information, and/ or graphs for interpretation and analysis.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors system and processes to identify gaps, promote effective and efficient operations, and meet the varying needs of the departments.
  • Functions in a collaborative role with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality training programs are consistent with performance goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Healthcare/management experience preferred. 
  • Pediatric experience preferred. 
  • Mental health and nursing Special education experience preferred.
  • Possesses excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to plan, establish and maintain a professional work environment. 
  • Ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational functions. 
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to direct subordinates and delegate tasks. 
  • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice. 
  • Technical and professional knowledge unique to the business and/or clinical operations of the designated services (Nursing, Financial, Human Resource, Information Systems, Risk, Governance, Regulations, Planning and Marketing). 
  • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
