Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Radiology Student Aide observes and assists in radiologic procedures and examinations under the direction of a radiologist or delegating practitioner. Reports to designated department Supervisor/Manager/Director.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Receives and interprets requests and/or instructions for radiologic procedures; gains the cooperation of patients; operates radiographic equipment; protects patients from secondary radiation; and records results.
    • Maintains and applies knowledge of radiation protection standards; knowledge of the function of the major divisions of the skeletal system and major organs; and knowledge of the physical concept of energy and the property of X-rays and electric circuits to perform diagnostic procedures and to assist as a member of a medical team in radiologic examinations.
    • Assists in services using imaging modalities including but not limited to conventional x-ray, CR, DR, Fluoroscopy, Bone Density, and Urodynamics.
    • Observes and assists services within inpatient, OR, ED and outpatient setting.
    • Evaluates radiographs for technical quality. Performs, assists, and accountable for various clinical laboratory procedures including but not limited to specimen processing, storage, handling, and transporting of specimens, and proper maintenance and operation of instrumentation.
    • Exercises professional judgment in the performance of radiographic and laboratory procedures.
    • Provides patient care essential to radiographic procedures.
    • Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current licensure as a Radiologic Technologist by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) required within 1 year of hire. 
    • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained and maintained within 90 days of hire.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited radiologic technology program.
    • Knowledge of diagnostic radiology principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of radiologic equipment.
    • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients/families, staff and physicians.
    • Analytical skills necessary to determine best method of providing requested radiographs based on the individual case and basic technical principles, ensuring clear undistorted radiographs at the lowest radiation exposure/dosage.
    • Knowledge and experience performing pediatric phlebotomy.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as but not limited to excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures.  Frequent exposures to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions related to patient care activities.
