Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Referral Coordinator greets, directs and assists patients and visitors upon arrival to the service area or through telecommunication devices. Responsible for accurate data collection, documentation, and data retrieval with computerized and paper systems.  Ability to perform registration processes, insurance verification, co-payments, authorizations, and referral inquiry functions.  Reports to Practice Manager/Supervisor.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Serves as a coordinator, expert and liaison for patient and practice for referral coordination, scheduling and other office functions.
    • Assists in maintaining medical records and filing systems.
    • Assists with clerical and secretarial support. 
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • None required.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • High school graduate or GED.
    • 3 – 5 years of related experience required. 
    • Ability to relate with the public and coordinate insurance and referral processes.
    • Ability to effectively gather and exchange information in both oral and written communications with proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. 
    • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetical or numeric systems.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and computer data entry skills required. 
    • Knowledge of third party payer referral and insurance verification processes.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
