Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Child Advocacy Center Medical Director is responsible for the medical direction of the CAC including program management, clinical evaluation of patients, and directing education efforts.  A high level of independence in performance of the role is expected, however demonstrated cooperation and collaboration with CAC and hospital staff is equally essential for successful functioning. The Medical Director has a collaborative administrative relationship with the Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center and as Chief of the Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics reports academically to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides inpatient and outpatient child abuse assessment and consultation.
  • Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team and provides education to medical, legal and investigative individuals on child abuse and related issues.
  • Works collaboratively with law enforcement agencies, child protective services or other agencies responsible for investigating possible maltreatment. 
  • Teaches MDT partners as well as medical residents and students who rotate within the program.
  • Academic appointment at Eastern Virginia Medical School commensurate with experience.    
  • Provides expert testimony in court.  
  • Provides organizational leadership on program developments, improvements and projects.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.
     

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Licensed as a Medical Doctor by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Child Abuse Pediatrics, or board certification in General Pediatrics with experience/expertise in child abuse pediatrics.
     

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.  
  • Fellowship trained or advanced training/experience in child abuse pediatrics.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  
  • Supervisory skills necessary to organize and oversee work of APPs and other medical staff, including preparation of clinical reports.
  • Analytical skills to write policies and successfully partner with hospital programs.
  • Increased security clearance is required including FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and Child Protective Services registry search.
