Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting and supporting the Finance Department in financial statement preparation, transactional processing and other general accounting functions.  Duties may require interaction with and knowledge of other areas due to the nature of financial analysis. Work requires demonstrated ability to think critically, do financial analysis and organize workload to meet established priorities and special projects as assigned. Reports to department leadership.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Supports the financial operations of the organization through account reconciliation, financial analysis and the preparation of financial reports. 
    • Performs intermediate to complex accounting functions related to the preparation of journal entries, financial reports, general ledger account reconciliations, and cost reporting. 
    • Works collaboratively with leadership and external auditors on the preparation of requested information. 
    • Assists in the preparation of appropriate tax returns for the health system. 
    • Effectively communicates financial information and plans to facilitate informed decision making. 
    • Assists and supports department leadership with special projects as needed. 
    • Performs additional duties as assigned. 
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • None required.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Knowledge of general accounting functions at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other closely related field. 
    • Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility in order to plan and implement at a level normally acquired through three to four years of progressively more responsible related work experience required. 
    • Healthcare experience a plus.
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain a variety of internal and external working relationships. 
    • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills necessary to gather interpret and verify accuracy of data. 
    • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel and other large scale general ledger systems. 
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
