Summary

This position is responsible for handling on demand and scheduled preventive maintenance of the facility equipment to primarily include Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and associated systems in accordance with departmental, hospital and regulatory agency codes.  This role is responsible for providing guidance and project specific management to others.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for providing guidance to others and to provide project specific management to others.  Trains and develops crafts personnel in the HVAC trade.  Develops technical training parameters.

·         Performs inspections, maintenance and repairs to facilities to provide a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Performs repairs to failed equipment according to established standards and within acceptable timeframes.  Completes activities in a manner that maximizes effectiveness of the task and minimizes the impact to the customer. 

·         Defines preventative maintenance parameters and processes for new pieces of equipment.  Monitor effectiveness of existing preventative maintenance procedures.

·         Provides notification of equipment shutdowns to appropriate leadership, departmental personnel, and Service Response Center Operators. 

·         Maintains documentation to accurately record equipment problems and failures specifically including but not limited to work order completeness. 

·         Provides complete documentation as required by management and for authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) specifically including but not limited to work order documentation. 

·         Creates a bill of materials from blueprints.

·         Develops technical training parameters. 

·         Demonstrates knowledge and skills equivalent to those required to receive a Commercial HVAC State B License with C endorsement or Stationary Engineer II License

·         Ensures good rapport and cooperative working relationship with internal and external customers.  Demonstrates respect for others and positive attitude.  Demonstrates effective, thorough verbal and written communication with customers and co-workers. 

·         Participates in all hospital and departmental training as required by leadership.

·         Responds promptly and appropriately to all forms of Hospital communications including but not limited to pagers, radios, telephone, e-mail messages, verbal and written communications.

·         Responsible for providing guidance to others and to provide project specific management to others.

·         Plans, organizes and coordinates small projects. 

·         Works from blueprints and estimates projects. 

·         Manages individual inventory following departmental inventory management and control parameters. 

Licenses and/or Certifications:

·        Virginia Commercial HVAC State B License with C endorsement or Stationary Engineer II License required. A comparable license issued by another state is acceptable, provided the Virginia License is obtained within 12 months of the date of hire.

 

·        Virginia Commercial HVAC State A License with C endorsement or Stationary Engineer I License preferred.

 

·       Refrigeration certification preferred.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Required:

·         High school diploma or equivalent.

·         A minimum of five (5) years of experience as an HVAC service-related technician.

·         Demonstrates troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

·         Demonstrates basic math skills in algebra, geometry and statistics.

·         Demonstrates knowledge of components and functionality for a basic HVAC system.

·         Demonstrates ability to be a self-starter and manage time well.

·         Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and be able to meet the insurance requirements of the  hospital.

Preferred:

·         Previous experience working with HVAC systems in a clinical environment.

·         Previous High-rise HVAC systems experience.

·         Building Automation System (BAS) experience.
